LAURA ALBAST

Journalist, Photographer, Translator

Laura is a journalist, editor, and media analyst. Her publications and appearances include The Washington Post, The New Arab, Arab American News, Doha News, Al Jazeera, TRT World, KPFA and other outlets. She is also a skilled Arabic/English translator who contributed to dozens of projects in video, audio, and print including FIASCO podcast, Bloomberg Businessweek and The Nation. Laura guest edited and translated a special issue published in UK-based Skin Deep creative magazine titled Palestine: Ways of Being. Her Arabic poetry has been published in Romman Cultural, Sekka Magazine, and the Ghassan Kanafani Resistance Arts Anthology. She holds degrees from the American University of Beirut and Boston University and is currently the Senior Editor of Digital Strategy and Communications at the Institute for Palestine Studies-USA.

In Washington, DC, she is one of the few female photographers of color covering foreign policy-related protests. Her photos of a Yemeni activist’s hunger strike to end U.S. funding to Saudi Arabia’s armed intervention in that country were carried by NPR, Aljazeera, Democracy Now, InsiderArab American News, and other outlets.
